Class victory and overall podium at the Tourenwagen Golden Era season opener at Hockenheim.
Schnitzer Classic sent two BMW E36 super touring cars to the start of the season, driven by Ralph Bahr and Yannik Trautwein. In qualifying, it was not easy to find a lap without traffic in the field of almost 50 cars. Yannik managed to secure pole position in his class, which equaled seventh place overall. Ralph achieved a good seventh place in class, which meant 17th place overall.
Starting race 1, both Schnitzer Classic drivers started to push forward. Ralph Bahr was already in the top 10 when a broken differential mount forced him to retire. Meanwhile, Yannik Trautwein enjoyed the fans with lap-long battle with Kris Nissen in his BMW M3 and Ronny Scheer in the Ford Sierra Cosworth, which he won thanks to courageous maneuvers. He crossed he finish line in second place overall behind ex-Schnitzer driver Altrid Heger in his Audi V8 DTM, and claimed victory in the supertouring class.
Race 2 became a weather gamble. Although the track was still wet, both Schnitzer Classic drivers went for slick tires. After some slippery first few the track slowly started to dry so that both drivers were able to start to catch up the rain tyre drivers after half distance. Yannik set multiple fastest laps to finish third on overall, which meant again the win of the supertouring cars. Ralph crossed the finish line as the fourth-best super touring car driver.
Next race is the Nürburgring Classics end of May.
