Double victory for Schnitzer Classic at thrilling season opener

Yannik Trautwein takes victory in a BMW 320i E36 STW ahead of Kris Nissen in a BMW E30 DTM.

The season opener of the DTM Classic at the Lausitzring was a real treat to all racing fans. After 4th and 5th place in the first qualifying, the Schnitzer Classic Team claimed a double victory in Race 1 after Stefan Mücke, who had been leading for a long time, had to stop his Opel Calibra ITC with a technical defect in the last lap.

The grid of race 2 also looked very promisingly with a Schnitzer Classic row 1 after Trautwein secured pole position in the morning qualifying ahead of team mate Kris Nissen. From the start, the two Schnitzer Classic drivers dominated the race before the safety car came out after an engine failure of a fellow competitor. At the restart, the Schnitzer Classic drivers managed to put a gap between them and the competitors, but after turn 1 Yannik Trautwein suffered a technical defect that forced him to slow down and eventually stop the car. Meanwhile, Kris Nissen showed an epic fight against Ronny Scheer in his powerful Ford Sierra, ultimately securing a strong third place in the photo finish.
